Visit Twillingate

Visit Twillingate (formerly Twillingate Islands Tourism Association) is a volunteer-run non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote and foster tourism on Twillingate Islands, NWI, and area. The organization’s mandate is to promote Twillingate Islands as one of the best tourism destinations in Newfoundland and Labrador. They support their members through marketing the island, community awareness, business support tourism, consulting, preservation of historic sites and hiking trails, and maintenance of viewing sites.

the challenge

They had been running their public website through a membership management platform but found that the design of the site had gotten dated, it wasn’t as user-friendly as it could be, and it was cumbersome to update. They didn’t have an easy, templated way to onboard new members or update the information of existing members. They were on a tight deadline to replace the website before the platform came up for annual renewal.

the solution

We designed a mobile-friendly site on WordPress with a custom-built member directory. We included maps on all member category pages to help visitors plan their trip to Twillingate. Each member now has a consistent profile layout that is optimized for SEO. We implemented an events calendar that is more robust and flexible allowing them to create information-rich landing pages for each event and to set up recurring events with ease. Visitors can also choose to subscribe to the calendar so that they don’t miss a thing. We were able to launch on time to avoid costly software renewal.

the results

The Visit Twillingate team can now easily accept new members to the site and update existing members without needing to know any code. We also gave them room to grow with a blog to further show off Twillingate as a great travel destination. With advanced analytics, they will also be able to show value to their members with data on how many profile views they had and how many actions were taken.
